may I salute John Cowan as the rock of sanity, integrity and
perseverance in this contentious debate. By his own account, he is
obliged ex officio, as Editor of the Infoset, to take so public
and so central a part. As one skeptical of the Infoset, I might
not have wanted to see it so ably represented, but I can hardly
imagine more capable, or more literate, execution of the role
which John has taken here.
