> Why not? It'd certainly clear things up! Because that name list is just a simplified schema for one particular language that is defined using elements in that namespace. (currently the only one). But the namespace isn't restricted to those names. <x xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"/> is the element x in the same namespace, but it osn't in your list. Schema validation (even for a schema language that just lists a finite set of names) isn't the same as namespace processing. David
