Text Retrieval is a part of the requirements for XML Query. http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-zig/2002Apr/0047.html seems to me to be well within the scope of XML Query. (I tried to get some interest within XML Query in looking at Z39.50, but they are very focused on SQL/MM right now) > I think there are folk in the > XML query group looking at extensions for full text search. I'll try to > track down details on that (Liam, can you comment at all?). I do not believe there have been any public statements about the status of the full text search in XML Query, sorry. W3C Members can look at http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/w3c-query-operators/2002Apr/0050.html [member-only link, sorry] for some recent discussion. But I think I can safely say that we are a very long way from a working draft of anything. As I see it, Z39.50 is at a different level -- the ASN.1 query formulations would be replaced, if you were using a modified Z39.50 that worked with XML Query, or at least, that's my first thought. Hope this helps. Liam -- Liam Quin, W3C XML Activity Lead, liam@w3.org
