introduction Webont

I am a senior scientist at Philips Research Laboratories
in Eindhoven.

I will serve as principal member for Philips of the Webont
Working Group.

Before I joined Philips in 1985, I studied chemistry, published
research papers in mathematics, and obtained my Ph.D.
for research on mathematical/theoretical aspects of thermodynamics.

At Philips I turned to AI, and developed systems that are being
used to exploit qualitative, causal knowledge for the diagnosis
of manufacturing processes.
In addition to the area of knowledge representation and reasoning,
I also have experience in the area of data modeling and the
development of database applications.

We investigate the use of knowledge representation and
Semantic Web technology in the development of media-related
systems that know about the context of use and that can adapt
to this context.

Best regards,

Herman ter Horst
