I suggest to add a new option "check XML wellformedness" to the WWW validator. If this option is selected by the user, violations of wellformedness shall be reported as warnings. I am aware that XML wellformedness, in particular closing each element by a closing tag </...> or using clopening tags <.../>, is not a requirement for syntactically correct HTML5 text. If, however, a project decides to adhere to wellformedness in their HTML usage, detecting violations can substantially aid in identifying potential problems irrespective of whether the HTML text is produced by humans or by software. Thank you for considering this suggestion. -- Helmut Richter
