All, We are getting closer every day to an official release of the Markup Validator. Thanks to the feedback and discussion received in the past couple of weeks, I am glad to announce the [[ Markup Validator version 0.6.5 # beta 3 ]] ** STATUS ** This is the fourth consecutive beta version of the Markup Validator since its last stable release. Since the latest beta test started (for 0.6.5beta2), two weeks ago, we have based our work on the feedback received and on the discussions held on the validator's mailing-list to make further improvement in navigation, layout and documentation. Given the limited difference with version 0.6.5beta2, and given the recent feedback received, we expect the beta test period for the beta 3 to be short, and plan to go ahead with the actual release within approximately one week, provided that one remaining issue be solved (see separate message - your help appreciated -). ** CHANGES ** Since http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-validator/2004Apr/0076.html we have : - tried to improve the navigation and ease of use for the validator. One of the major choices was to remove the righthand navigation bar (links bar). - fixed a number of typos and grammar mistakes in the documentation - fixed a number of style issues, including modifying our style to avoid a display bug in a very popular browser. - fixed a few minor bugs in the core validator, including bugs related to the validity of the HTML Markup the validator outputs. ** FEEDBACK ** We are doing our best to improve the Markup Validator to be accurate and friendly, and this can only be achieved with *your* support and feedback, especially during beta testing periods. Your comments, feedback and help are much welcome on the public mailing-list www-validator@w3.org: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-validator/ Before submitting a bug report, we encourage you to check that it is not an already acknowledged issue, with our bug/issue tracking system: http://www.w3.org/Bugs/ For this particular beta testing period, we especially welcome comments on the usability and navigation, suggestions to improve the documentation, tweaks and fixes for our new style-sheets, and other Interface-related feedback. ** INSTALL THIS BETA LOCALLY ** If you are a developer, we encourage you to not only try the online Markup Validation service at http://validator.w3.org:8001/, we also encourage you to get the source for this beta in our CVS repository, and perhaps install it locally, too. Instructions to get the 0.6.5beta3 CVS code at: http://dev.w3.org/cvsweb/validator/ Instructions on how to install the Markup Validator locally at: http://validator.w3.org:8001/docs/install.html ** THANKS ** The team of volunteers behind the development of the Markup Validator would like to thank all the participants in the www-validator mailing-list who gave recent feedback and support, hence helping us getting this new beta version ready. On a personal note, I would like to thank the developers for their energy and perseverance in the past few weeks (and, as a matter of fact, in the past years) for their great benevolent work. Thank you. -- olivier Thereaux - W3C / QA / Tools http://www.w3.org/People/olivier/
