This is a relatively down-to-earth analysis of what's going to happen with HDTV and digital TV in the US, with a couple of interesting tidbits (e.g. color TV took 10 years until it had 10% of the market, and that wasn't as big as a technology switch as going from analog to digital) http://www.wired.com/news/news/culture/story/14769.html
