But note the specific wording in that reference: http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG/refs.html#ref-CSS2 [CSS2] Cascading Style Sheets, level 2, B. Bos, H. W. Lie, C. Lilley, I. Jacobs, eds. World Wide Web Consortium, 11 April 2008. This edition of CSS2 is http://www.w3.org/TR/2008/REC-CSS2-20080411/ and is no longer maintained. The latest edition of CSS2 is available at http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/. The CSS Working Group encourages authors and implementors to reference CSS 2.1 (or its successor) instead of this document and, when features common to CSS2 and CSS 2.1 are defined differently to follow the definitions in CSS 2.1. A list of changes between CSS2 and CSS 2.1 may be helpful. MMFG> When CSS 2.1 becomes a recommendation, will it reference CSS 2.1 MMFG> [3]? Assuming the 'it' is SVG 1.1SE, simply changing the reference from 2.0 to 2.1 is insufficient. As you point out below, substantial parts of CSS2 referenced by SVG are dropped from 2.1; not just the two properties, but also all descriptors and the @font-face rule for example. Changing the reference to CSS 2.1 (Rec) and CSS3 Fonts (WD) would gate SVG 1.1 Second Edition on CSS3 Fonts moving to Proposed Recommendation. That would introduce a large delay. However, the SVG WG is tracking the changes in CSS3 Fonts. SVG 2 will assuredly reference CSS 2.1 and CSS3 Fonts. MMFG> Note that two properties in CSS 2, namely ‘font-size-adjust’ and MMFG> ‘font-stretch’, have been dropped from CSS 2.1, but they exist in MMFG> CSS Fonts Module Level 3 [4].
