I've given feedback in the past that, while fine-grained lux can be useful for some applications, plenty of applications just want to query for the same level of granularity that we expose in CSS, and so the AmbientLight event should expose that information. (Extra benefit is that any UA that exposes the (light-level) MQ doesn't need to deal with additional permissions to report the same information to JS more directly.) They have a note summarizing that, but no spec text covering it.
