Load this PDF document:

http://www.clg.qc.ca/fileadmin/clg/programmes/pdf/Grille_de_cours_Web_420.AA.pdf

and look at the "Session 1", (and "Session 2" to "Session 6") and "FS" 
and "FG" cells at the left-hand side of the table. It is using 
sideways-left.

When a table is large, creating sideways text is a way to make a large 
table narrower.
