It certainly got some use, as windows desktop machines running IE haven't exactly been a rare thing during the last 15 years. But: - without cross browser or cross platform support, sites couldn't completely depend on it - if it fails to work where expected, it may be somewhat inconvenient for users, but as switching the IME on or off is something users routinely do themselves, no site can become unusable due to this. I suspect that browsers that currently support it in some form will keep that support, so probably nothing that currently works will break anyway. But we should not encourage this to spread, and (author/vendor/standardizer) efforts should be directed to the HTML attributes instead. - Florian
