The core grammar is a bit more restrictive than, IMO, it need to be. 
Syntax 3 a bit less. But since these construct are invalid in any 
existing selector/property value/etc. the difference is invisible to

Which tokens are "preserved" [1] is kind of related to the above. I’m 
not sure this is worth everyone’s time on the call, as it’s also 
invisible to authors.
