[css3-flexbox] 'appropriate rules' not defined

Step 5 of the Flexbox Algorithm states that
   # If the flexbox's main size doesn't rely on its contents, its actual main
   # size is calculated per the appropriate rules.

It's not defined what the "appropriate rules" are.
