Check out <http://dev.w3.org/csswg/css3-transitions/#animatable-properties-> - 'shadow' is an animatable type. The list only explicitly calls out text-shadow, but I suspect that's because the current Transitions draft was written during the period when box-shadow was removed from B&B. ~TJ
