I am not completely sure about "as", but either of these two sound better  
to me than what we currently have.

I think the choice between "<direction>" or "<point> to <point>" depends  
diagonals, and which phrasing people prefer between "upwards leftwards"  
and "bottom to left". But at least neither is ambiguous.
