Right, broader use of pseudo elements is not what we feel is a priority for this spec at this point. 'grid-cell' adds significant complications, yet we don't see important use cases that can be done with pseudo elements but not with elements.

You can call html elements junk if you like.... it is not super productive for making progress here, use cases help more.
