The issue was the sentence : "When the :first-letter and :first-line pseudo-elements are combined with :before and :after". It was giving the impression that p::first-letter::before was allowed. That's not the case, only one pseudo-element is allowed per selector, at the end of the last sequence of simple selectors. </Daniel>
