hm would it help if the user-supplied data was seen not only as a value indicator but also a precision indicator? That is, "1.5" would match any aspect ratio that was 1.5 when expressed to only one decimal place. That means that 1.3 would match a 4:3 screen (or anything close-ish), and so on.
