[css3 Generated content] What happens with corrupted files in content:url() ?

http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/WD-css3-content-20030514/#content

| <uri>
| ...then if the URI is available and the format is supported, then
| the element or pseudo-element becomes a replaced element, otherwise,
| the next item in the comma separated list is used, if any.

What happens if the format is supported and the file is available, but
corrupted, as in a corrupted gif or a non-well formed svg?
