Sounds to like you're proposing this: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/present/styles.html#specifying-external Which allows the style information to be in a separate file, that can be cached separately of your HTML documents. This is the method I would advocate above dumping all your CSS definitions in a <style> block in your documents.
