"Type & Layout" by Colin Wheildon, page 34 has figure 8 which has a diagram called the Gutenberg Diagram supposedly developed by "distinguished American typographer and teacher Edmund Arnold" which charts the basic reading eye movement. Since the movement begins at the top left, that typically places a larger significance on the alignment/appearance/sharpness of the top left of a layout than say the right or bottom edges. Tantek
