Speaking in terms of what could be done today, on existing browsers, I think the recommendation in the FAQ works fine, and is not *wrong*, except that the issues with using separate namespaces were not worked out in the XHTML 1.0 spec. The spec (sec. 3.1.2) clearly points this out as "work unfinished", and it is hard to imagine a way that the work could be "finished" without making the example in the RDF FAQ valid. So I personally would look at this as a spec bug, not a HTML code bug -- especially when the example in the FAQ works fine on any browser likely to be in use today.
