[Gosp_John] Re: Right and Wrong Questions

Elaine,
I am certainly of the opinion that the questions Jesus is asked in
John's Gospel have a literary function, helping to drive the argument
forward. They draw out of Jesus precisely the point he was going to make
anyway, and may be no more than an educational ploy, as were dialogues in
Plato etc. As to the particular point(s) you felt were being made, I found
myself a little unclear as to what you were actually saying. Clearly, the
theme of what makes a good disciple is one of the themes John is concerned
with, and some of these discourses do indeed teach on that subject, but your
post appeared in a strange way on my machine. I am set to plain text only,
and there appeared to be O's and superscript numbers scattered all over the
post, normally where one would expect quotation marks, but also in places
where one would not expect that punctuation. Are you using a non-standard
keyboard, or sending the message in HTML?

Best Wishes

JOHN E STATON
