Open source and open free standards is what I had in my portfolio when I applied for my first job - and got it. By having those standard patented, you will effectively dig under the foundation of open mind and new ideas, that was there to build these standards in the first place. Restricting them will only point towards software monopolies and prevent young students from developing their own software. A swedish student can not afford more than perhaps one such program a *year*, and I take all student prices in account here. - Samuel Professional software engineer. Sweden.
