Dear Sirs, I am opposed to the recent proposal to allow W3C standards to include patented technology under the RAND conditions. I would strongly recommend that the W3C's endorsement only apply to royalty-free technologies. Rather than include my own comments here, I would to add support to the comments of the following people (among many of your respondents on this issue): John Gilmore http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-patentpolicy-comment/2001Sep/0736.ht ml Eben Moglen: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-patentpolicy-comment/2001Sep/0650.ht ml Regards, Simon Kitching Director, Wellington Consultancy BSC (Hons) Comp. Sci, University of Auckland, NZ. ___________________________________________________________________ This communication contains information which is confidential and may also be privileged.
