Your proposal was announced at a bad time. Most US Colleges and U's started their Fall semester during the 6 weeks of your "announcement", most folks who care the most about open standards are busy at that time. Thus your lack of response, and comments about not announcing loudly enough. The W3C is blatantly endorsing software and business model patents with this proposal, to state you are not is fallacious and insulting. Open standards are open. Closed or encumbered "standards" are not standards that should be considered by an open standards committee. Patent's do not deserve a policy other than: they are not a part of open standards. If the W3C starts naming encumbered technologies as "standards", they will cease to be an open standards body, and something else will arise to take their, (W3C's), place. I will strongly support a Schism of the WEB if you folks indeed push this through. I will use all of my contacts at Large, Medium, and Small U's and Colleges, as well as the professional business contacts I have made through my meager 10 year career in Internet and Information Technology to strongly support a truly open alternative to the W3C. - cameron -- - cameron miller - UNIX Systems Administrator - Pipeline Fool - (719)587-7685 - cdmiller@adams.edu
