Reject this proposal

Allowing W3C recommendations on patent-encumbered standards would
deviate grossly from the original intent of the Web as an environment
that encourages free speech and exchange of ideas. In the particular
case of free software, the impact would be devastating. Please remember
how much the web and free software have helped research (and
intellectual cooperation in general) and reject this proposal.
