Unfortunately, I do not have time to compose a full e-mail myself on the subject, as I will be out of town over the next week. However, I would like to call your attention to two comments which reflect my opinions quite well. The two comments are by John Gilmore (gnu@toad.com) archived at http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-patentpolicy-comment/2001Sep/0736.html and Alan Cox (alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk) archived at http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-patentpolicy-comment/2001Sep/0131.html I cannot see any reason for RAND in the W3C policies, and I am strongly against the W3C adopting any such policy.
