no to w3c patents

Dear W3C,

I urge you not to change the W3C's patent policy to allow patented
recommendations and standards. The Internet and World Wide Web have grown
so rapidly exactly because their standards are free and open. There is
clearly no need of patent protection in this sphere to spur innovation;
such protection would have the opposite effect, allowing large companies
to hold back innovation by stifling competition.

Don't give in to pressure from large companies like Microsoft to rig the
game to their advantage--keep the playing field level and keep technology
moving forward by keeping patents out of the W3C.
