RAND already damaging W3C imho

People who read about RAND and don't agree with it
(the majority, it seems) will lose trust in the W3C,
so the adoption of xml for data exchange may be
seriously reconsidered by lots of developers: why
spending money and resources to adhere to a W3C
standard when you can use your own or a free one
(which is likely to come from open source projects)?
Of course the survival of proprietary standards will
slow down IT development, but it's still better than
depending on a patent policy, especially if the
company who owns the patent seems to have forgotten
its primary goals. I don't know how the license may
affect html, i hope not to put a telnet address in my
business card :)
