Hello, Please forgive me for sending this message to so many addresses; it was not obvious from the W3C web page who I should contact. I am writing to request that there be an extension in the period for public comment on a possible change in W3C's policy regarding patents. The last day for comments was yesterday, but the matter appears to have hit the media only in the last two or three days, judging from the sudden burst of activity related to this topic on sites such as slashdot.org and linuxtoday.com. I am sure that many individuals, such as myself, have very strong feelings on the matter and would like an opportunity to comment now that the matter has become publicly known. There are enough of us who are opposed on moral grounds to software patents that for W3C to embrace patents could well lead to the formation of a rival standards body; this would obviously be in nobody's best interest.
