Announcements/Updates/Progress reports NS: We should have a core meeting on Monday so we can check to see that the charter is OK. We discussed the accessibility of PDF files. Preview does not work well with PDFs especially if they are tagged. 2 Charter (github <https://github.com/mathml-refresh/charter-drafts/blob/gh-pages/math-2023.html>, view <https://mathml-refresh.github.io/charter-drafts/math-2023.html>) NS: did some work on background and motivation. NS: has updated the dates for the deliverables in the charter. NS: MathML core will be a recommendation by the first quarter of 2024. NS: Core level 2, maybe a first working draft by Q 3 of 2024. NS: We need to get some implementations trying to generate intense and properties. NS: Removed some of the deliverables and asked the group to consider removing other deliverables. NS: The MathML recharter starts in June. DC: We will not get to CR before rechartering. NS: AM means accessibility mapping. DC: Does Brian Kardell want to be chair of the core group? NS: We assume so. <https://sandbox.cryptpad.info/code/inner.html?ver=5.2.2-1#cp-md-0-3-closing-intent-issues->3. Closing intent issues? • List of open issues <https://github.com/w3c/mathml/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3Aintent> • Discussion done? #337, #402, #421, #433, #442, #454, #456 • These may be pending (small?) clarifications/examples in the spec text: #409, #410, #425, #434, #435, #439, #441 Issue 337 We came to the conclusion that properties are the way to go. DG: Properties are the way to go, but we also have the explicit intent forms in case you want to explicitly specify every single constituent of the table. NS: We need to have a list of properties like "identity matrix". Issue 337 was closed. DC closed issue 402. The goal of issue 421 was to see if we can map SRE-enriched MML to MathML with intent attributes. *ACTION* DC will put a comment in issue 421 asking MOS if it is OK to close this issue. Issue 433 is: We should discuss if the charter of the next WG will deliver a sample-set default conversion from MathML (without intent) to MathML (with intent) so that legacy MathML expressions can be enriched (at least partially). BM: I would like to see in the spec a relatively small list of the most significant kind of properties that we can imagine. He does not want to make an exhaustive list of properties. He wants to Make a small list and add to the list as people gain experience. We then started on a discussion of the properties called "equations" and "systems of equations". BM: Equations can have any relation to one another. Systems of equations are somehow related: for example, a system of equations can be several simultaneous equations. Table issue 433 until we gain more experience. DG: The open lists should also have a property sheet. NS to BB: He hopes to get the charter out by the end of next week. Is that enough time since our current charter expires at the end of May? BB thought it was enough time for us to get rechartered. We closed issue 442. Issue 454 Should we allow references in the head. NS: yes. NS: We should talk about how they should be processed. We did not decide if bottom-up or top-down processing is best. Issue 454 was tabled. Issue 456: DF: It is ok to close this. Issue 409 was on internationalization. We have not answered all the internationalization questions. Should we provide a list of intents in all languages? NS: The core list should be in English. Systems should know how to translate it. If you gave an intent in another language, it would be an open intent. NS: We would need to publish a list of core intents in other languages or else they would be open intents. **ACTION* DG will summarize issue 409 and close it. <https://sandbox.cryptpad.info/code/inner.html?ver=5.2.2-1#cp-md-0-4-differing-prs-for-spec-463-pr-a-href-https-github-com-w3c-mathml-pull-464-464-a-pr-a-href-https-github-com-w3c-mathml-pull-459-459-a->4. Differing PRs for spec: #463 (PR #464 <https://github.com/w3c/mathml/pull/464>,PR #459 <https://github.com/w3c/mathml/pull/459>) PR 463 and PR 464 are about removing the intent section from chapter five of the spec and making it a standalone chapter. Certain elements out of the accessibility appendix © will be included into the new intent chapter. PR 459 is about changing the intent grammar. NS: What do people think about pulling intent out of chapter 5? Do we pull more content from the accessibility appendix? DC: wrote chapter five originally. It was about semantics before the term intent became popular. DC: Intent is now purely about AT. It does not work with content MathML. DC: We spent little time on semantics these past six months. BM: Intent is completely separate from semantics. BM: is in favor of splitting the chapter. NS: We need more intent discussion before we can have a CR. BM: The best practices for accessibility might be placed in a note separate from the spec. NS: Accessibility must be in the spec. DC: will split the chapter and start adding accessibility appendix items to it. NS: does this mess up DG's pr? DC: Not much. DG: is ok with splitting the chapter. DG's changes will be considered next week. NS: Next week's meeting will be one hour. We should have a charter at that time. NS will check with Brian to make sure we have a core meeting on Monday.
