Hi Richard, Nice work on the docs. Some comments. wrt http://www.w3.org/International/tests/test-idn-display-1: Near the top it says: "Run each test twice. First with only en or en-US listed in the browser language preferences, and secondly with the following additional languages in the preferences: Russian, Japanese, German, Greek, Hindi, Armenian, Thai and 'am' (user defined code for Amharic)...." This part only applies to IE - right? If so, then maybe that should be called out. Also, did you see Najib's email of March 7? - He made the point that even for some 'supported' TLDs, Firefox displays Arabic & Hebrew domain names in punycode. Yet, if you mix some Latin characters with the Arabic [and possibly Hebrew] domain names, they render fine... peculiar. Anyway, it would be useful to include some Arabic/Hebrew IDNs in the list of examples. Thanks, ~mm Richard Ishida wrote: > The edits continue... > > I have reworded the description of Firefox and Opera at > http://localhost/International/articles/idn-and-iri/#work > to reflect the results of the tests, and replaced the previous, incorrect sentence which suggested that Firefox actually compares the list of characters defined by a TLD against those in the IDN. > > I also added a paragraph in the IE7 section, mentioning the case of Amharic. > > I removed the table, and pointed to the tests and results pages instead. > > I also added a few more tests, and wrote up their results. > http://www.w3.org/International/tests/test-idn-display-1 > http://www.w3.org/International/tests/results/results-idn-display > > RI > > ============ > Richard Ishida > Internationalization Lead > W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) > > http://www.w3.org/People/Ishida/ > http://www.w3.org/International/ > http://people.w3.org/rishida/blog/ > http://www.flickr.com/photos/ishida/ > > > >> -----Original Message----- >> From: www-international-request@w3.org >> [mailto:www-international-request@w3.org] On Behalf Of Richard Ishida >> Sent: 23 March 2007 11:58 >> To: Michael.Monaghan@Sun.COM >> Cc: 'WWW International' >> Subject: RE: For review: An Introduction to Multilingual Web Addresses >> >> >> I've just uploaded a results page for the IDN tests at >> http://www.w3.org/International/tests/results/results-idn-display.php >> >> While writing up the results, I added a few additional tests to >> http://www.w3.org/International/tests/test-idn-display-1 >> >> I'll wait a day or so for comments before linking from the >> site (and pointing Opera to the tests). >> >> RI >> >> ============ >> Richard Ishida >> Internationalization Lead >> W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) >> >> http://www.w3.org/People/Ishida/ >> http://www.w3.org/International/ >> http://people.w3.org/rishida/blog/ >> http://www.flickr.com/photos/ishida/ >> >> >> >>> -----Original Message----- >>> From: www-international-request@w3.org >>> [mailto:www-international-request@w3.org] On Behalf Of >> Richard Ishida >>> Sent: 22 March 2007 21:10 >>> To: Michael.Monaghan@Sun.COM >>> Cc: 'WWW International' >>> Subject: RE: For review: An Introduction to Multilingual >> Web Addresses >>> >>> I put together an initial draft of a set of tests at >>> http://www.w3.org/International/tests/test-idn-display-1 >>> >>> It was revealing wrt Firefox's approach.
