Hello Susan, We discussed this comment in our Core teleconference today. In order to take a decision on this, I was actioned to ask you in what circumstanes people are likely to want to set their preferences to light on dark. We are trying to assess the importance of undertaking this work, given our time pressures. We also discussed that there are situations where we feel that transparency of graphics is desirable, to allow the background of the page to appear. For instance, if we were to change the styling of our document in the future such that examples of this kind had a light coloured background. Cheers, RI ============ Richard Ishida W3C contact info: http://www.w3.org/People/Ishida/ W3C Internationalization: http://www.w3.org/International/ > -----Original Message----- > From: www-i18n-comments-request@w3.org > [mailto:www-i18n-comments-request@w3.org] On Behalf Of Susan Lesch > Sent: 12 March 2004 22:51 > To: www-i18n-comments@w3.org > Cc: Susan Lesch > Subject: Background color of images > > > This is a last call comment from Susan Lesch (lesch@w3.org) > on the Character Model for the World Wide Web 1.0 > (http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-charmod-20020430/). > > Semi-structured version of the comment: > > Submitted by: Susan Lesch (lesch@w3.org) Submitted on behalf > of (maybe empty): W3C Communications Team Comment type: other > Chapter/section the comment applies to: Overall The comment > will be visible to: public Comment title: Background color of images > Comment: > Images, for example [1], need a background color (white is > fine) so they can be read when user preferences are set to > light on dark. > > [1] > http://www.w3.org/TR/2004/WD-charmod-20040225/images/logSelMemory.gif > > > Structured version of the comment: > > <lc-comment > visibility="public" status="pending" > decision="pending" impact="pending" id="LC-"> > <originator email="lesch@w3.org" > >Susan Lesch</originator> > <represents email="" > >W3C Communications Team</represents> > <charmod-section > href='http://www.w3.org/TR/2004/WD-charmod-20040225/' > >Overall</charmod-section> > <title>Background color of images</title> > <description> > <comment> > <dated-link date="2004-03-12" > > href="http://www.w3.org/mid/352523558.20040312225044@toro.w3.m > ag.keio.ac.jp" > >Background color of images</dated-link> > <para>Images, for example [1], need a background color > (white is fine) so they can be read when user preferences are > set to light on dark. > > [1] > http://www.w3.org/TR/2004/WD-charmod-20040225/images/logSelMem > ory.gif</para> > </comment> > </description> > </lc-comment> >
