It would invalidate all of the HTML documents that depend on paragraphs NOT
containing tables because the table end tag is supposed to "signal" the end
of the paragraph. If tables were allowed in paragraphs, those documents
would mean something completely different and look completely different.

To those who have been complaining that HTML doesn't allow you to leave out
more tags, you can see one of the big problems with it: the assumptions you
allowed authors to make in their documents today tie your hands tomorrow.
