I think that <math> and <fig> would be very widely used immediatly after Netscape and MS-Explorer would be able to display it. The Internet had once been a medium for akademic interchange. <math>, <fig> and related HTML-elements would help it to stay in this position. I don t see ANY reason to eliminate these HTML-features.
