java and true type fonts

Hi,I have a True Type font file named BN.TTF. I copied
it
under `fonts` directory of JDK1.2.2 and also under
system/fonts. I set the JAVA_FONTS environment
variable too. The type face name is 'Map BN' and I
create a new Font object 'n my applet w'th that type
face name given but I just see empty rectangles. What
shall I do to solve this problem ? Shall I deal with
font.properties files?
I ll be very happy if any one can help me..
