HTML Tidy repairs, which is probably not what is wanted here.
If you want to be mean about the syntax, you can use a local copy
of the SP package, used by validator.w3.org, or even a complete
local installation of validator.w3.org.

Note that working within the specification also includes 
not assuming that completely valid input will be displayed
in a particular way.
