There is already a lot of text where screen readers tell you the font size is 0 and the color is black on black. Is not having the information a show stopper for using accessible text interface? -----Original Message----- From: Richard Schwerdtfeger [mailto:richschwer@gmail.com] Sent: Tuesday, February 9, 2016 9:18 AM To: Joseph Scheuhammer <clown@alum.mit.edu> Cc: Matt King <a11ythinker@gmail.com>; Cynthia Shelly <cyns@microsoft.com>; Alexander Surkov <surkov.alexander@gmail.com>; James Teh <jamie@nvaccess.org>; Rich Schwerdtfeger <schwer@us.ibm.com>; wai-xtech@w3.org; public-aria@w3.org Subject: Re: role="text" and text frames Well, there is a problem with that approach. You don’t know the font characteristics. So, for accessible text you would need to know how to get at the indices for each character and its size. We can’t do that accurately with a bitmap or with SVG drawing strokes. > On Feb 9, 2016, at 11:15 AM, Joseph Scheuhammer <clown@alum.mit.edu> wrote: > > On 2016-02-09 11:52 AM, Rich Schwerdtfeger wrote: >> I ran this by Freedom Scientific and if a role is chosen they agree it ought to be for STATIC text. > > Any indication of whether they think the accessible text interface should be implemented for elements with role="text"?
