That a difficult one. Arguably they have used the wrong character, rather than an image, but they have done it based on the shape of the glyph. The correct character would be ❌ (Cross Mark - U+274C), or maybe ✗ (Ballot X - U+2717) or ✘ (Heavy Ballot X - U+2718). but the character used is between ✔ (Heavy Check Mark - U+2714, and the latter 2, so one could argue that it is mis-named in Unicode, given that its positioning implies it is intended to be used in the way it was used.
