I've been testing reading systems (in browsers and discrete) for TTS with EPUB using various affordances. None of the reading systems will instantiate either <video> or <audio>, despite the recommendation by WAI that only html5 semantic elements are used. The <button> tag is often called out but no control is afforded to the user. No doubt, this is why the media widget is empty of implementation language.
