Re: Definition of "target" in "target size"

I added a proposed modification so both versions are visible in the definition – partially by changing “touch” to “pointer” and partially but just writing “target” instead of “touch target”.

Region of the display that will accept a pointer action. If a portion of a target that does not perform the same action or go to the same page is overlapped by another target such that it cannot receive pointer actions, then that portion is not considered part of the target for purposes of target measurements.

If people want to indicate their acceptance of the CFC based on one or the other definition, that’s fine as we’ve only had one CFC response (from Jason) so far.

Thanks,

Could probably just switch "touch" with "pointer"

definition:
Target: Region of the display that will accept a pointer action. If a portion of a pointer target that does not perform the same action or go to the same page is overlapped by another pointer target such that it cannot receive pointer actions, then that portion is not considered a pointer target for purposes of pointer target measurements.

We've defined pointer elsewhere from the pointer events spec.

Copying Patrick the editor of Pointer events on this.

The proposed success criterion refers to “pointer inputs”, but the definition of “target” then proceeds to discuss touch actions and to use the word “touch” repeatedly (see below). However, not all pointing devices are touch devices, and this leaves the proposal (read in combination with the definition) confusing.

This merits either clarification of the text or, perhaps in the shorter term, at least an editorial note.

The definition:
Target: Region of the display that will accept a touch action. If a portion of a touch target that does not perform the same action or go to the same page is overlapped by another touch target such that it cannot receive touch actions, then that portion is not considered a touch target for purposes of touch target measurements.
