RE: Possible added SC to 2.5

Everybody needs to know which fields are required. I was hoping to add a
technique to the General Techniques that spoke about how to clearly identify
necessary fields and I did not have a SC to link back to in the Guidelines.
I tried to link it back to Guideline three but there is no clean SC match
there either.

I'm open to the idea of abandoning it. There is a good argument that every
form should do mark required fields and perhaps it is unnecessary to mention
it in the guidelines. Certainly every form should identify necessary fields.
But it seems to me and the low vision people I interviewed that it is
important to speak about the quality and characteristics of that
notification. It is impossible to do that without a SC in the guidelines to
link back to.

I think that wording is too general. If I was filling out a form - then it
would have to list every piece of paper or record as well as knowledge that
I needed.

Can you restrict this to forms? And fields?

Also - also this looks like something everyone would need. Not just people
with disabilities. Am I missing something?

I have been working on General Techniques for Guideline 2.5.

I recommend that we add a SC to this guideline perhaps as SC level 2 item 4,
that says something like.

"Information that is required for the successful completion of the
interaction is clearly identified."

--------

I'm speaking about a line at the top of a document that says something like:

required fields are marked with an *

or

required fields are marked with "(required)"
