I find the end of the definition confusing. We say we use it 3 ways. And it appears we mean different things by it in each. So we would need 3 definitions? When we say "used to mean A" and "Used to mean B" it sounds like two definitions. Do we really mean that they are different meanings? Or just different places that we use it. If different meanings then I think we have trouble using it in any SC unless we specify what meaning we mean. I think we are closing on it - but are not there yet. Gregg -- ------------------------------ Gregg C Vanderheiden Ph.D. Subject: Re: Proposal for Guideline 1.1 (Definition of content) Wendy writes: <blockquote> content Proposed definition: Information that forms Web sites and Web applications: the code and markup that define the structure, presentation, and interaction, as well as text, images, and sounds that convey information to the end-user. In this specification, the noun "content" is used in three ways: 1. It is used to mean the delivery unit as a whole or in parts - the information that the author provides such that the user agent can generate an accessible perceivable unit(s). 2. It is used to mean the perceivable unit(s) as a whole or in parts. 3. It is used in the term non-text content. </blockquote> I like this definition. But I'm not quite clear on the relationship between the first two sentences (both have colons). This is probably a small editorial change but given the importance of the term "content" to what we're doing, it's critical that the definition be clear. John "Good design is accessible design."
