Remember, an EXTENDED link is not necessarily one of its own resources. So the intent would be, I'd think, that you'd read the docs in the Extended Linking Group thus identified, and if one of them had an xlink pointing at some element in your current doc, you might want to provide a visual indication of this fact so as to enable traversal to the other resources participating in that link. Clearly the explanation in that section of the spec is weak. - Tim
