IMO all points mentioned here seem valid. I still think, ideally and from practical point of view, domain ontologies should take care of the different points of views of the world and one UO to act as glue and common language between them. Maybe the UO could have couple of different views in itself, but in a well controlled way. That way everyone doing the good and hard work of defining ontologies would build on the same system instead of the fragmentation that is going on now. But maybe it's not just possible even in theory, or as it was mentioned, it will emerge some day :)
