> SUMMARY OF DECISIONS
> ====================
> Note to secretary: Please insert a summary of all decisions made during
> this teleconference at this location in the minutes.
>
> Decisions MUST be clear as to their complete intent. The subject of the
> decision should *not* require dereferencing; it is most helpful if
> agenda numbers and bug numbers are accompanied by their titles. If a
> decision is recorded about the resolution of a bug, the decision must
> state exactly what the resolution is (e.g., "Accept the solution in
> comment #5", or "Replace the production for XXX with this: <new
> production>", or the like. It should be possible to read a decision
> months later and be certain what it meant and whether or not it was
> properly applied.

DECISION: Accept MKay's proposals in comment 6 of Bug 29404
([QT3] anyURI in fn:collection).

DECISION: MDyck's proposed change re Evaluating Function Calls will go into
the editor's draft, but we'll keep Bug 29277 open.

DECISION: JRobie to editorially fix Bug 29487 (Section 3.11.3.1 Unary Lookup
wrongly compares array?* to array:flatten)

> NEW ACTION ITEMS
> ================
> Note to secretary: Please insert all new action items assigned during
> this teleconference at this location in the minutes.
>
> Action items MUST make sense even when they are viewed standalone (that
> is, not read in the context of the agenda item where they were
> assigned). This explicitly requires that all referents (e.g., "this",
> "that") be made clear. Action items such as "Ralph to resolve this
> problem" are DISALLOWED. It takes a scribe only a few additional
> minutes to ensure that action items are clear, while it takes the entire
> WG considerable effort to constantly research the meaning of unclear
> action items. The subject of the action item should *not* require
> dereferencing; it is most helpful if agenda numbers and bug numbers are
> accompanied by their titles.

ACTION A-635-01: MKay to make the changes he proposed in comment 6 of
Bug 29404 ([QT3] anyURI in fn:collection).

ACTION A-635-02: MDyck to incorporate his proposal re Evaluating Function
Calls into the editor's draft.

ACTION A-635-03: MDyck to propose a solution to Bug 29501 re parsing colons.

ACTION A-635-04: JRobie to editorially fix Bug 29487 (Section 3.11.3.1 Unary
Lookup wrongly compares array?* to array:flatten)

ACTION A-635-05: O'Neil to go through the bugs in the defunct Bugzilla
component "XML Query Test Suite", closing or moving each as appropriate.

ACTION A-635-06: MKay to write a response to bug 27734 (<assert-xml
ignore-prefixes="true")

ACTION A-635-07: O'Neil to regenerate the test suite catalog schema HTML.

ACTION A-635-08: Josh to make the change described in comment #0 of Bug 29515
("The expected result of format-dateTime-011 is incorrect"). This will also
resolve Bug 29493.

MDyck reviews his proposal.

JRobie: a good step, probably the right direction.

MKay: What is a FunctionBody? When you're reading the XPath spec, does it
only mean an XPath FunctionBody, or does it include an XQuery FunctionBody?
E.g., if an XPath expr calls fn:load-xquery-module(), and calls a function
whose implementation is a XQuery FunctionBody.

MKay: The info made available to the invocation needs to include the function's
signature, so that the implementation knows the return type, so that it can
apply function conversion rules to the result.
MDyck: But the DM requires that the implementation return an instance of
the result type, so the Function Call spec can assume it knows how to do so.

MKay reviews his response:
https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-xsl-query/2016Mar/0009.html
Reading it again, he thinks he might alter some details, but keep the outline.

MKay: The semantics of a function call should be, as far as possible,
independent of how the function is implemented. There should be
an abstract interface between function call and func implementation.
The Data Model gives special status to host language expressions,
should be language-neutral.

JRobie: Not sure if agree with MKay's criticisms.
We *should* be treating user-written functions differently.
XQuery/XPath/XSLT *should* be privileged in the DM.

JRobie: DM 3.0 and 3.1 shouldn't be different re functions.
MKay: we've added two new kinds of functions: maps and arrays,
and none of this discussion considers them.

JRobie: This seems late in the process.
MKay: The whole things is late, we're changing the foundation.
Foundational, not merely cosmetic.
I prefer to try to get it right.

JRobie: I feel we're getting into feature creep.
I don't want to change the data model.

Abel: I have some sympathy for Jonathan, don't want to make the can of worms
bigger. On the other hand, if adding those features means we fix them,
then I favour that. It's hard to choose.

Abel: The DM says a function's implementation is either a host-language
expression or not. We should use the same dichotomy in the XQuery/XPath spec.
MKay: In some cases, people might think "host language expression" is a Java
expression.

Abel: XPath is the host language for the DM, and XQuery and XSLT are the host
languages for XPath.
JRobie: The host language for the DM is *not* just XPath.

Abel: What if a future version of XQuery were to allow the user to declare a
context-sensitive function?
MDyck: Then most of the 'FunctionBody' case would still apply, there would
just be a tweak to the rule for setting up the dynamic environment that you
use to evaluate the FunctionBody.

JRobie: I agree that 'implementation-dependent' is not the right word (for a
non-FunctionBody implementation). "Foreign"?

DECISION: MDyck's proposal will go into the editor's draft, but we'll keep the
bug open.

ACTION A-635-02: MDyck to incorporate his proposal into the editor's draft.

Reminder: add agenda item re email discussion re "anonymous function"?

> J4.4.2 Bug 29501 - [xp31] Colon is not in the list of non-terminal symbols
> https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=29501
>
> Status: Ready to discuss

MKay: the real problem isn't what the title of the bug says, rather it's
how do we parse constructs involving colon (map constructor vs QName).
We could require people to put in whitespace after colon: it
can't immediately follow a NCName (incl a NCName that's part of a QName).

JRobie: I'd like them to be errors.

Josh: I don't object to making them errors, but I was leaning the other way.
Gently arguing for one of the solutions in comment #6.
I like making Wildcard a single token.

MKay: exact formulation of the rule requires a bit of care.

ACTION A-635-03: MDyck to propose a solution.
