Introduction: Laurent-Walter Goix (TI)

My name is Laurent-Walter Goix and I am a research engineer at Telecom Italia closely working with Claudio Venezia who recently introduced himself and myself (thanks Claudio!).



For about a year now I've been investigating federated social networks with my team in several ways, after nearly 5 years on prototyping & publicly trialing UGC platforms across Italy.

We have been prototyping an OStatus implementation on top of our social networking tools: we now have Webfinger (both inbound and outbound for subscriptions) & PuSH publication (looking forward to having our own hub), Activitystrea.ms feeds and are finishing Salmon implementation. We also have been investigating the extension of Salmon for private messaging. We have tested interoperability with status.net accounts.

In general we are interested in all initiatives and open platforms providing SN federation, including semantic-based platforms.



In parallel I am actively contributing to an activity in OMA [1] named "Mobile Social Networking (MSN)". Our goal is to study the current landscape of social networks focusing on the mobile point of view. In particular we are investigating the main initiatives from the Social Web and identifying what is still missing for a comprehensive ecosystem, with the aim to leverage the technologies that OMA has already developed and identify gaps that OMA may fill in starting new work items. In this context, federation is of course one of the key aspects to achieve interoperability that we are carefully considering. The outcome of the OMA activity is a White Paper that will be made publicly available in due course (May/Jun 2011). Nevertheless, I intend to refer to this group as well and possibly facilitate a liaison exchange for a fruitful collaboration.



I am not sure I will be able to attend the Berlin summit although I'll try to join the next calls the best I can.
