Another interesting take on user education http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2149723/eu-sponsors-safer-internet-day Global 'blogathon' to mark Safer Internet Day EU sponsors this year's event on 7 February Iain Thomson, vnunet.com 03 Feb 2006 This year's Safer Internet Day will be held on 7 February with a series of events, including a global blogging session, organised by the European Union and the Internet Watch Foundation among others. Safer Internet Day 2006 has been designed to alert people to the skills they need to use computers and the internet safely. The EU's Insafe network is organising a global 'blogathon' in which a wide range of organisations will promote internet safety. Special guests will make postings on the blog and invite comments from visitors. The blog will include content in several languages, and will have a geographical focus that moves west through the global time zones from New Zealand to Argentina. Viviane Reding, European Commissioner for Information Society and Media, has once again been chosen as the patron of Safer Internet Day. "Blogs are a popular way of communicating for people of all age groups, so it is appropriate that the Insafe network is using a blog on Safer Internet Day to show how using the internet can be enjoyable, and what young people need to remember when blogging." Safer Internet Day 2006 builds on the success of last year's event, when 65 organisations from 30 countries took part.
