Introduction

I'm Michael(tm) Smith[1]. On IRC, "malware"[2].

I've been living and working in Tokyo for the last five years --
for most of that time (and for about a year before I arrived) on
design, development, testing, and deployment of software for
mobile operators in Japan. Prior to joining Opera, I worked for
another (mobile) browser vendor, Openwave.

As far as recent/related standards involvement, I've been
participating in the CA/Browser Forum[3] as a representative of
Opera, though my colleague Yngve Petterson has been the main Opera
rep over the lifetime of that group.

I am as big a fan of desktop/PC Web browsing as the next guy, but
I also have a keen interest in helping to make the (full) Web
accessible and useable from devices other than desktop PCs --
especially from small-screen mobile devices. So I hope one
particular contribution I can make to the group is to help ensure
that in any standard(s) for presenting Web security-context
information, the needs of users of mobile devices and other non-PC
network-connected devices are given careful consideration.

[1] I use the "(tm)" in my name online simply to test others'
patience, though I claim it's there to "protect the value of my
personal brand from being diluted".

[2] Pronounced "mahl-wah-ray"
